Bengaluru: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has secured a major five-year technology services contract from US consumer electronics giant Best Buy, taking over operations of the retailer’s India Global Capability Center (GCC) and significantly expanding its role across data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI).
According to industry reports, the deal is estimated to be worth approximately ₹2,000 crore, making it one of the notable GCC-related technology services engagements in the retail sector. TCS reportedly emerged ahead of Accenture during the final stage of the selection process, while Wipro was also considered during the initial rounds.
TCS Strengthens Partnership with Best Buy
The new mandate builds on TCS’s existing relationship with Best Buy, where the IT services company has already been supporting various technology and digital transformation initiatives.
Under the agreement, TCS will manage Best Buy’s India GCC operations while also delivering broader technology services. The scope of work includes key areas such as:
- Data and analytics
- Artificial intelligence
- Digital transformation
- Technology operations
- Productivity and process optimization
Industry sources suggest that TCS secured the contract through a combination of competitive pricing, strong service-level commitments, and productivity-focused delivery capabilities.
Best Buy’s Bengaluru GCC Plays Strategic Role
Best Buy established its 70,000-square-foot technology center in Bengaluru in 2024 as part of its efforts to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen its technology capabilities.
The India center serves as a hub for:
- Product management
- Engineering
- Digital strategy
- Infrastructure and operations
- Design and innovation
With approximately 600 employees, the GCC has become increasingly important to Best Buy’s global technology strategy, particularly in areas related to AI, mobile platforms, and digital commerce.
The retailer has been investing heavily in building technology-driven customer experiences, making the India center a key innovation engine within its global operations.
AI and Digital Commerce Drive Growth
The latest agreement comes at a time when Best Buy is increasing its focus on artificial intelligence and digital commerce.
The company has identified AI-enabled innovation and digital platforms as critical areas for future growth, and the expanded partnership with TCS is expected to support these priorities.
Industry analysts believe the deal positions TCS to play a larger role in helping Best Buy modernize technology infrastructure, enhance customer experiences, and scale AI-driven capabilities.
Competition Intensifies for GCC Mandates
The contract highlights the growing competition among global consulting firms and technology service providers for large GCC and outsourcing engagements.
TCS and Accenture were reportedly the final contenders for the mandate, with TCS ultimately securing the contract. Wipro was also among the firms considered during the selection process.
As multinational corporations continue to expand their India GCC footprint, service providers are increasingly competing for opportunities that combine traditional technology services with advanced capabilities in AI, analytics, and digital transformation.
A Significant Win for TCS
For TCS, the Best Buy mandate represents a significant expansion of an existing client relationship and reinforces its position as a leading partner for enterprises seeking to scale technology and innovation capabilities through GCCs.
The five-year engagement is expected to deepen collaboration between the two companies while strengthening Best Buy’s technology operations in India.
With GCCs evolving into strategic centers for innovation, product development, and AI adoption, the deal reflects the growing importance of India as a global hub for enterprise technology and digital transformation.
